About MMHA

Multicultural Mental Health Australia (MMHA) provides national leadership in mental health and suicide prevention for Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds

MMHA works collaboratively at a national, state and territory level to:

v      Increase support and information for CALD mental health consumers, their families and carers

v      Promote the development of culturally competent mental health services

v      Support initiatives that prevent mental illness in CALD communities

v      Increase awareness in multicultural communities of mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness

v      Develop resources, information and training in relation to cultural competency for specialist and mainstream mental health professionals

v      Conduct and support conferences, forums and workshops aimed at promoting mental health for diverse communities

v      Provide consultancy and advice in the development of multicultural mental health and suicide prevention policy

v      Collect and disseminate information related to multicultural mental health and suicide prevention

v      Facilitate a two-way exchange of information with interested stakeholders including consumer and carer groups

 

MMHA is funded under the National Mental Health Strategy and National Suicide Prevention Strategy by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
