MHiMA Project Objectives
Purpose
The Mental Health in Multicultural Australia Project (MHiMA) is a key mechanism to build capacity in multicultural mental health nationally via strategic alignment with national mental health & suicide prevention initiatives and strategic level engagement with the jurisdictions.
The intent of the MHiMA project is:
- Better mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention, incl. suicide prevention for CALD individuals and communities.
- Supporting primary care professional, incl. GPs and allied health service providers, and State and Territory MHS to be able to better respond to CALD mental health needs.
- Supporting social inclusion for people living with mental health problems in CALD communities.
- Providing policy support on CALD mental health issues to Government as required.
The target groups for the project include but are not limited to:
- People from CALD backgrounds with a mental illness;
- Carers and families of people from CALD backgrounds with a mental illness;
- Population groups vulnerable to mental illness including but not limited to newly arrived individuals and their families, youth of first, second and subsequent generations of migrants, and older people;
- CALD communities and agencies, and;
- Primary care professional, including GPs and allied health service providers, and state and territory mental health services.
