Research project into service responses to suicidal men
Specialist Men's Counsellor with Centacare Sydney and PhD student at the University of Sydney, Stephen Kilkeary, is calling for people to participate in his research study into service responses to suicidal men. Stephen's project has been approved by the University's Human Research Ethics Committee and has the potential to make significant changes to mental health services.
Stephen says that many men come into contact with mental health services after attempting or thinking about suicide. He is keen to talk to these men about the quality of these contacts to determine what works, what doesn't work and what can be improved.
If you are a man between 27 and 49 years old and have come into contact with mental health services over the last 2-5 years after attempting or thinking about suicide - you may like to consider participating in Stephen's research study.
It will require you to give an hour of your time to be interviewed for the study. While you will need to share your experiences and stories with Stephen, your confidentiality will be respected at all times.
Your time will strongly assist Stephen in his investigation into how mental health services respond to you and how they can be improved.
Stephen stresses that his research study is not suitable for men who have been acutely mentally unwell during the past six months.
If you are interested in participating - please contact Stephen Kilkeary - 02 9390 5832 or email him directly -skil4095@mail.usyd.edu.au.
