Rotary’s $3m boost to medical research

last modified 02/04/2007 11:22

A major injection into mental health research.

The Australian Rotary Health Research Fund (ARHRF) has issued grants worth almost $3 million to researchers across Australia.

Congratulations to Associate Professor John Gleeson from the University of Melbourne and the North Western Mental Health Program in Victoria, who has received funding to evaluate an intervention program for consumers of mainstream mental health services who have a history of violent offending.

Dr Wendy Oddy from the Curtin University of Technology and the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in WA will use her grant money to lead a study into whether there is a link between nutrition, anxiety and depression.

Professor Paula Barrett from the University of Queensland aims to use her money to implement her Fun FRIENDS program into kindergartens located in some of Brisbane’s lower socio-economic areas. Her program will help prevent preschoolers experiencing anxiety and depression.
