Multicultural Mental Health Australia is proud to present this half-day workshop by Greg Turner, in conjunction with the ACT Transcultural Mental Health Network Forum, "Communicating Effectively - The Challenges and Barriers to using Accredited Interpreters in Mental Health" to be held in Canberra on October 26, 2006.

This workshop explores ways that interpreters and mental health workers can work together to try to get as close as possible to the intended meaning behind the words of the speaker. While this workshop addresses these issues in terms of mental health, the interpretive processes discussed can be utilised across the broader health field and provide a respectful vehicle for the interpretation of meaning.

Greg Turner is a psychologist and education coordinator, Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre. He has coordinated the development of an accredited course in “Interpreting in Mental Health Settings”.
