The WA Transcultural Mental Health Conferences have been successful biennial
events. The 2nd WA Transcultural Mental Health Conference, 'Broadening the Horizon', was held in Perth in
November 2006 and incorporated the Convention for Multicultural Mental Health Carers. The event allowed an
opportunity for all stakeholders in the multicultural health sector to convene from around Australia and from
overseas. Delegates heard and learned about developments, initiatives and ongoing projects that would meet the
mental health needs of carers and consumers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Keynote speakers came from Australia and overseas and presented challenging issues for discussion and thought.
Overall, the paper presentations were of a high quality and generated many requests for slides of these presentations
to be made available. With presenters' permission, these slides can now be downloaded.
Plans are underway to host the 3rd WA Transcultural Mental Health Conference as a joined event with the 19th
Annual Mental health Services Conference and the 1st Australasian Refugee Health Conference to be held in Perth in
September 2009.
